Harpoon a Fish How to Play: Catch, Dive and Grow Pets

Last updated 2026-10-18Unofficial player article

How to Play

  • Answer: Catching uses aiming, firing and timed reeling; depth progress comes from gaining weight.
  • Use it: The aquarium gives caught fish a pet-growth role alongside collecting new species.
  • Next step: Choose the next improvement for the part of the loop currently limiting your goal.

Two kinds of progress happen around each dive

Harpoon a Fish combines a capture game with a growing collection. You aim and fire at a fish, then time the reels to bring it in. Outside that attempt, weight determines how deeply your character can sink, while the aquarium lets caught fish grow as pets. These systems connect, but they do not ask for the same action.

Harpoon a Fish island and capture tutorialFollow the opening captures, island interactions, crafting and equipment menus, then use this guide for the particular decision you want to make.

That distinction is useful when deciding what to do next. If you can reach a fish but keep failing the capture, spend attention on the reel or your equipped harpoons. If you want to explore water you cannot yet reach, gaining weight is the relevant progression task. Treating every obstacle as a request for a new weapon can send the session toward the wrong purchase.

Use the island between fishing trips

Use the aquarium, Mukbang table, crafting and equipment menus on the island. Return from the water and continue the task you selected rather than leaving every menu for later. On PC, use Space to surface, then continue the arrow tasks on land.

At the Mukbang table, the player buys the table, sits and eats. The developer connects greater weight with deeper sinking. At the aquarium, caught fish become pets to grow and eventually evolve. You can therefore give a dive two useful outcomes: bring home a catch and use the return to develop the part of the game that opens the next goal.

Collect with a purpose instead of only chasing size

The developer advertises more than 1,800 unique fish, so an index goal can last well beyond the opening tutorial. Pick a missing target or a recipe ingredient as a reason for the next trip. It gives an ordinary catch value even when it is not the largest creature on screen.

The tutorial shows a crafting task involving octopuses and bait, along with a fish index. Use the actual task or entry in front of you to choose a target. A large collection does not require you to memorize every fish immediately. The fish index guide explains how to turn collection progress into a manageable next objective.

Rewards support the loop you already have

Creator codes, Playtime Rewards and crates offer different reward opportunities. XP, potions and keys are different rewards, so notice what you actually receive. A crate also asks for its own key type; owning a reward key does not mean every box is the same purchase.

A useful session ends with a reason to return: finish a bait ingredient, improve the set you equip, reach deeper water or grow a pet you want to keep. Competing for another player’s fish is another possible goal, but only one player wins that trophy. Start with the beginner route if these systems are all new, then choose the specialist guide for the one decision you are making now.
