Harpoon a Fish Fish Index Guide: Choose the Missing Catch
Fish Index Guide
- Answer: Use the index to identify a missing collection target before the next dive.
- Use it: Read the species, rarity and weight of a landed fish as separate catch-card fields.
- Next step: Connect the missing target with water you can reach, a crafting task or a pet goal.
Make the index answer one question
Open the collection with a simple question: which fish do I want to work on next? The developer advertises more than 1,800 unique fish, so browsing without a goal can quickly become less useful than choosing one reachable entry. A short collection objective gives the next dive a clear result to aim for. Use the Harpoon a Fish experience for the current in-game task.
Use the island index to track species. Use it alongside the actual fish you have caught, rather than treating the total collection size as a demand to rush immediately into the deepest water. An early missing entry can be worth pursuing because it is available and gives the session a finish you can recognize.
Separate the index from the catch card
A catch card describes the fish you just landed through its species, rarity and weight. The index answers the broader collection question. Read the name first, then decide whether this catch moves the objective you selected forward. A weight record and a newly collected species can both be satisfying, but they are different reasons to keep fishing.
This distinction is also useful when deciding what to do with the fish afterward. The card tells you about the catch, while the aquarium gives a kept fish a pet-growth role. Do not make one display stand in for every part of progression. The fish guide explains those roles together.
| Catch-card field | Use |
|---|---|
| Species | Identify the fish that was landed. |
| Rarity | Read its displayed rarity tag. |
| Weight | Read the size of that particular catch. |
Choose a target that fits the current dive
Match the missing entry with what you can attempt now. Weight is the developer’s stated route to deeper sinking, so an inaccessible target can become a character-growth goal between trips. A reachable target is instead a reason to focus on the capture itself or on the equipment set you field.
A bait recipe can supply another focused task. The tutorial follows an octopus objective and crafting interaction, which makes the next required fish more concrete than an open-ended search for anything rare. Use the actual recipe in front of you, then return to the index when choosing the next collection goal.
Finish one objective before replacing it
A nearby rival or a larger creature can make it tempting to abandon the target you selected. Decide whether that new attempt is worth changing the session. If the aim is finishing a missing entry, an ordinary completed catch may be more useful than a contested trophy you do not need.
After a successful trip, choose the next missing target or give the new pet attention in the aquarium. The index completion guide expands the long-term planning side. Keep the immediate task small enough to finish: pick the fish, reach its water, complete the reel and use the result to decide what collection goal comes next.
