Harpoon a Fish Fish Guide: Catches, Collection and Pets
Fish Guide
- Answer: A completed catch gives you a fish to use; a connected harpoon is still an attempt.
- Use it: The index tracks collection, while a catch card describes the fish you landed.
- Next step: Aquarium growth and evolution develop kept pets alongside the search for new fish.
Decide what you want this fish to do
A fish can be a capture goal, a missing collection entry or a pet you want to grow. Choosing that role before the dive makes target selection easier. You do not need the largest creature on screen when the task is an ordinary ingredient or a species you have not caught yet. Use the Harpoon a Fish experience for the current in-game task.
Harpoon a Fish connects those goals through its ordinary capture sequence. Aim, fire and complete the timed reel, then give the landed catch the role you selected. Until the fish is actually caught, you are still working on the attempt. That distinction matters especially when another player competes for the same trophy.
Use the index for the collection question
The developer advertises more than 1,800 unique fish. Treat the index as the way to organize that large collection into something manageable: one missing target or a small group of reachable entries. A collection goal gives an ordinary dive a clear finish, even when it does not involve a new equipment purchase.
Catch cards show species, rarity and weight. Use those fields to understand the fish you just landed, while using the index for the larger question of what is still missing. The fish list overview keeps named tutorial catches separate from the much larger collection you will explore in the game.
| Role | Player question |
|---|---|
| Capture target | Can I finish this attempt? |
| Index entry | Does this serve the missing-species goal? |
| Aquarium pet | Do I want to grow or evolve this kept catch? |
Use the aquarium for the pet question
The official instructions tell you to put caught fish in the aquarium and grow them as pets. They also advertise evolution into bigger and rarer sea monsters. This gives a kept fish a development path after the capture, instead of making every session only a search for a new species.
Keep the pet goal separate from reaching deeper water. The diver gains weight to sink further, while the aquarium develops the catch you placed there. You can work on both during a session, but they lead to different useful actions on the island. The aquarium guide follows the pet side more closely.
Choose a target that fits your reachable water
Weight progression lets your character sink deeper and discover new sea monsters. If the target you want is beyond the water you can reach, work on that access goal rather than assuming that repeated shallow catches must eventually produce it. The Mukbang table introduces the eating interaction used in the character-growth loop.
For a target already within reach, focus on completing the capture or managing the equipment you field. For a contested target, decide whether competition serves the collection task. One fish can connect several systems, but a useful next step still belongs to a particular question. Open the fish index guide when choosing that next collection question is the part you want help with.
