Harpoon a Fish Beginner Guide: Your First Catch and Pet

Last updated 2026-10-18Unofficial player article

Beginner Guide

  • First catch: Follow the tutorial arrow, aim at the marked fish and complete the timed reel.
  • Island tasks: On PC, use Space to return to the island, then follow the aquarium and Mukbang table tasks.
  • Next goal: Keep one clear next goal: a working catch routine, a new reachable depth or a useful pet.

Finish the marked catch before chasing a monster

Follow the arrow into the water and take the fish the tutorial presents. Click to fire in the demonstrated PC controls, then concentrate on the reel prompt until the catch is complete. Harpoon a Fish separates firing from reeling: hitting the target starts the attempt, while timing the pull brings the fish in. A shot connecting is a useful start, but it is too early to plan around owning that fish.

Harpoon a Fish island and capture tutorialFollow the opening captures, island interactions, crafting and equipment menus, then use this guide for the particular decision you want to make.

Use the small opening catches to learn this distinction. A shrimp is a perfectly useful first result. You are learning where to aim, what happens after the hit and how a successful catch appears. Going after the largest creature immediately adds a collection goal before the basic input sequence is familiar. Keep your opening target manageable and finish the sequence you started.

Bring the catch back into the island loop

The PC tutorial uses Space to return to the surface. Back on the island, continue the arrow tasks instead of treating the first bag as the end of the session. Caught fish can become aquarium pets, and the developer specifically connects the aquarium with growing your new catch. That gives the fish a purpose beyond a moment of successful aiming.

The tutorial also takes you to a Mukbang table purchase and an eating interaction. Buy the table when that task appears, sit and use the eating step. Weight matters because a heavier character can sink deeper. This is your introduction to a second kind of progress: the fish you can reach changes as your character develops. A better shot and a deeper dive solve different problems.

Give the first earnings one job

I would put the opening money toward continuing the tutorial before optional purchases. The table introduces eating; equipment slots later let you field more of the harpoons you own. Buying whichever button looks most exciting can leave a basic task unfinished, so decide which part of the opening loop you are trying to improve.

Check the current code list and claim available Playtime Rewards while you are on the island. The demonstrated rewards include XP and potions, while the creator’s code reward includes Ruby Keys. Keep those resource names separate from money. A reward is useful when you know what arrived and what menu uses it; it is not a reason to assume that every crate can now be opened.

Choose a second-session goal you can finish

Once you have completed a catch and placed a pet, choose one reason for the next dive. You might want the fish requested by a bait recipe, a missing index entry or a catch from water you can now reach. A specific target makes an ordinary dive more useful than repeatedly switching between every visible objective.

Leave competing for other players’ fish until you can finish your own reel attempts consistently. Stealing is an advertised feature, and a contested trophy has one winner. Learning it can be fun, but an uncontested catch is often the more straightforward choice when you are simply trying to complete a first collection task. Continue with the fish capture guide when the difference between the initial hit and the completed catch is still the part holding you back.
